Alberta Beach and District 50+ Club Update as of July 19, 2021

The Board met on July 8th and here are the results of that meeting:

A date for the AGM was set for Monday, September 13, 2021. Burgers will be available from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. with the meeting to start at 7:00 p.m.

Joan Charbonneau has been selected as the Nomination Chairperson.  All positions will be open this year as the current executive will be stepping down.  If you are interested in any position, please contact Joan @ 780-924-2186 in order to have your name on the slate of candidates.  Nominations can also be made at the meeting.

A ByLaw change to ByLaw 9.2 to read “5 members of the Board shall constitute a quorum at any meeting of the Board of Directors.” will be on the Agenda to vote on.  Currently 7 out of 9 Board positions need to be in attendance to form a quorum.

During winter months this is almost impossible to achieve so a recommendation has been made to lower this number to 5 from 7.  Without a quorum no money issues can be conducted. Please ensure your dues are up to date as only members in good standing can vote.

Poly Days July 31: We will also be participating in the scaled down version of Poly Days on July 31 by providing Ham and Eggers at the hall from 8:30 a.m. till 11:00 a.m.  Ham & Egger with tea/coffee/juice will be $6.00 per person.

Beef on a Bun! Friday, August 6th will be our first meal of the year.  Meal will consist of Beef on a Bun au jus, beans, coleslaw, dessert & tea/coffee.  Refreshments will be available at the bar and a 50/50 draw will be held.  Doors open at 5:00 PM with the meal being served at 6:00 PM.  Meal can be consumed at the hall or taken home as per your choice. Cost is $15.00 for members$20.00 for non-members and is payable at the door.  This is a limited event (only 75 meals) so reservations are mandatory.  Reservations are available for members starting July 20th and for non-members starting July 28th.  The cutoff date for reservations and cancellations is August 3rd.  Reservations can be made by contacting Helen (1-587-892-2298), Betty (780-975-2757) or Joan (780-924-2186).

Due to the events that took place this past year, food costs have increased dramatically.  For example last year at this time a box of hamburgers was about $28.00 and is now $45.00-$52.00 a box, rib eye steaks were $139.95 per case and are now $300.53 per case. Chicken, pork, vegetables etc. have also seen quite a rise in price.  Because of this, we must price out all items and add a modest profit in order to determine the costs associated with each event individually. Therefore all event pricing will have to be adjusted accordingly going forward.

Car Show: August 21st we will once again host a Car Show.  Andre has been working behind the scenes and has approached several sponsors, the DJ and cooking crew.  Everything is a go.  Posters will be up shortly and an ad in the paper will follow.

Other events will be occurring include a wine, cheese & dessert night, variety show, re-starting cribbage is on, card games, darts, etc.  Aerobics is operating now!

Check the side panel for aerobics and cribbage start dates!
