Good Day !! to all our Active 50+ Club members.
As your now officially elected Secretary (since the AGM on June 3) I think it is prudent to highlight a few changes in Club Administration that matter to us all.
* our phone line in the Hall 780-924-3636 now has Voice Mail that gets checked remotely every day
* we have switched to internet provider Telus, with sweet savings of $1,260 over the initial 3-year contract (as compared to the prior provider)
* that switch came with new email accounts options. With these accounts (email addresses), we are no longer tied to a specific computer, and the info also provides more continuity as these accounts will transition smoothly to a future Secretary / other designated Admin person
* the initial interference (by underlying g-mail platform) in these new accounts has now been ironed out. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we dealt with hurdles thrown at us during the whole process.
* for the Newsletters and Club updates : abbeach50bulletin@telus.net

There are several Club members / Directors involved with these processes, and it is great to experience the ever-increasing cyber-savvy !
I am quite a ways into a new electronic file system for Minutes, Agendas, posters, Membership Lists, event Reports, etc, that can simply be conveyed to future Secretaries / Admin people via a data-stick (USB). This provides continuity, and puts hunting expeditions for binders, copies, or “whose computer??” in the past. Such a system makes a new Secretary happy, and just needs to be kept up. (Do keep this in mind if you have Admin zest and could be a future Secretary !)
We are currently working on an Inventory Record, to derive at an average of “soft” items like food, and for a track-record of our “hard” items like electronics, kitchen equipment, pool tables, piano, etc. This electronic spread-sheet is also easy to update when items change / get replaced.
Since the start of 2024 there is a new item for everyone to use : a VOLUNTEER LOG (red, usually on the counter in the kitchen) – to record your time and task when helping with the many events that makes our Club active and welcoming. Knowing our Club / Event volunteer hours is useful for Grant applications. Our Club is a Non-Profit Corporation, fully driven by VOLUNTEERS. Currently counting 238 Members and Life Members combined we need to rely on your input and participation. As Pres Bev indicated in her Update earlier today : YOU ARE WANTED !!! and it is FUN !!
We have freshly printed Club Pamphlets, first handed out at the AGM a few days ago. They will soon be available at the Library, Village Office, stores and other public places in Alberta Beach. If you have capacity to color-print : it is attached (print landscape, double-sided, flip on the short edge). It is a good reminder of all the things your Club offers and is involved in.
Also attached is a Volunteer Interest sheet that you can print. Please do use it, and drop it off to the Hall at any of Ongoing Events (showing in the Pamphlet). If you cannot make it to those events at the Hall : you can also scan an email it to abbeach50info@telus.net. We invite you to get involved in some fun stuff, let us meet you, and you get to meet more great people !
Enjoy the sun, blue skies, spring + summer, and just ignore the wind (unless you are a kite surfer or something like that).
